When my daughter and I started urBasics in 2021, we had no idea of the adventure we were about to embark on. We wanted to build a space where trans folks could breathe easy, where parents could learn how to support their kids, and where garments and gear could become a catalyst for courage.
Out of everything we've learned, here's what stands out the most:
1. Support is life-saving
We see it in our in-person fittings, when hands tremble as folks try on their first binder or bra, and they look at the friend who came with them for support. Or when parents lean in to ask, “How do I get this right?” The tears, the hugs, and the quiet “thank you” from their teen who finally sees their true self in the mirror.
2. Growth is a gift
As a mom, I learned to follow my daughter's lead during her transition—to quiet my fears and trust her truth. Now, we share our learning with every family who walks through our studio doors: Listen. Hold space. Celebrate your child’s joy.
Our strength is in community:
This work isn’t just about finding the perfect garment; it’s about rewriting the script of what it means to be seen.
As we turn four, we’re here to say thank you—for trusting us with your stories, for letting us witness your bravery and for proving that trans joy is unstoppable.
Together we're unshakeable,
E & A
